July WIP never hunt for sport

@MichaelaH hmmm very good points
-
@Aleksey the drawing is looking very fun, interesting, and great storytelling, but I think it might need one character bigger in the foreground. Thinking in terms of big, small, tiny. Right now everything seems to be similar sizes.
-
@Aleksey Wow, that is a huge composition! It looks like a lot of time and hard work went into it, I can’t wait to see it with colour. There is so much to look at, but it doesn’t seem to feel cluttered at all.
-
@holleywilliamson good points! That is definitely a concern I’ll have to address.
@Erin-Cortese thanks! Yeah gotta fix some stuff then ill be able to do values and colors.
-
@Aleksey I like the brook, but I see what @MichaelaH is saying with the bridge! It does kinda get dwarfed by the characters. I wonder if changing it to a different kind of bridge would help. Maybe a couple of boards or just a fallen log. Maybe it's the railings that throw it off. OR maybe just adding a smaller animal, like a mouse on the bridge would make it work. But I just love how much is going on in the comp overall! I'm looking forward to seeing it in color!!

I just wanted to say that I love this and your progress is looking great!
What about just having a log for the bridge? Or a simple plank?
My dad used to hunt. When I was in high school I made a couple of little booklets for him about an inept deer hunter named Ralph that was always one-upped by the deer. This drawing reminds me of that, although yours looks 100x better than mine ever did!
-
This is looking awesome! Great feedback from Mitch. Just wanted to say I am enjoying watching the process on this one.
-
@TwiggyT ohh interesting idea. Thanks ! Getting one upped by a deer sounds hilarious
-
@Aleksey
I am really happy you pulled the stream off to the right side and not down the middle. I like these changes of depth.
-
Great new composition!
This composition creates a sense of depth. With the cooks "table" of supplies being in the foreground. You also have created a good path for our eye to follow with the stream. A lot is going on, but each thing does a good job of leading us around the piece.
Also, Love the tree wine holder. Hilarious!
I agree with what most are saying. Honestly, the bridge is next to the squirrels, so it is not throwing me off to much. Perhaps removing the railing. Or replacing it with rocks/stepping stones in the river. Just an idea.
-
@Aleksey looking great
-
Ok heres the rough sketch the trees in the back aren’t gonna be dark. They’re gonna be silhouetted .
-
@Aleksey
This is looking great! Love all the expressive details you added in this piece! -
@Aleksey this is so funny! I admire your composition with so many elements working well together
-
@Aleksey Looking great!! Losing the rails on the bridge was a good call, it draws less attention now. My eye wants to roam all over to discover every details!
-
Thanks ya’ll! Hopefully my colors look ok for this. My biggest challenge!
-
Ok heres the inked version
The background trees will be colored, im gonna remove the ink lines from them.
-
It is really a nice piece of work...I am looking forward to Your color version
-
Such a fun concept and a lovely variety of characters, really looking forward to seeing it colored.
Just a slight crit, It will probably be more obvious to me when it's colored and values are added, but it took me a while to actually realise there was a human on the spit. I wouldn't worry about that until I see the later version though.

Hi @Aleksey , I really, really love this piece. Even though there is a lot going on I think it’s working well so far. I really love your line work as well. One thing I’m curious about is the bird whose beak has pierced through the menu. Does he have bad eyesight thus forcing him to look really closely and then breaking through the menu? If so, maybe you could make him squint his eyes? You could even have his glasses on his head to add a little humor to it? It’s just a small suggestion. I really can’t wait to see this with color! Great work!
