First time artist grade anything. Daniel Smith watercolours - such vibrant colours! Wow wow! A bit more practise needed. But I love the colours made from primary colours.
Thanks,

@Braden-Hallett I’ve always loved your work but I really like what you’ve been doing recently without line. I know a lot of it you’ve been doing just to experiment with light but I find it a very appealing style.
Thanks! One never knows, there may be something worth pursuing there!

@Coley It totally would.
As for SCBWI. That is a good question. I think that if I hadn't started writing a story I probably would've let my membership lapse this year. Last year was the first year I had joined, and as an illustrator I didn't feel like there was a lot of support, especially in my region. I went to my regions spring conference last year and I'd say about 90% of the programs were geared towards writers. There was one workshop out of sixteen that was specifically for illustrators alone. Since I'm writing now, and am a total rookie at it, I think that I will get a lot more out of the conference and the meet & greets this year. I went to several meet and greets last year thinking to meet other illustrators and there were only writers. Fortunately I met a great art friend through svsforum that lives near enough that we can have a monthly art day.
I'm going to this years spring conference and possibly the summer convention in LA, and if I feel the same way as last year then I will probably not renew next year. We'll see.The SCBWI TheBook is awesome, but not the only source of contacts.

Blocked iiiiiiiiiiiiin

@burvantill thanks for the thought ! I’m pretty isolated where I live. I’m betting it’s several flights to get to the nearest conference anyhow! I might email the “ local’ chapter and ask. Only half of Canada to travel lol. I really need online connections as I’m just too far from the action!
are there awards for the draw this challenge or is it just basically a gallery? -
@Coley I believe that the award for the draw this challenge is that it gets used or shown in their monthly insight magazine.
They do have several other award/grant programs for illustrator’s that are pretty good. -
@Braden-Hallett hahahaha I agree. Cats are evil alright.

Just in case I run out of time to do traditional, I borrowed my husbands iPad and painted this digitally. Those max pack brushes are AMAZEBALLS!!!
I’m not done. Just wanted to share my progress.

More work on my wizard themed lamp for props class. No cord because it runs on magic. Once a little unwitting muggle tried dropping a battery in and was unfortunately transformed into a floating gourd. Parents understandably flipped out and the ministry of magic had to be brought in to restore the little muggle and wipe everyone’s memories.
Onto the prop ensemble part of the course now and hopefully I’ll get to the vehicle design course by the weekend!

On a scale from one to crazy how much do you love wonky houses?
This is a master study of a “house” painted by James C. Christensen. Another homework assignment for the @svslearn Creative Environment Design class.
Make a study of a building design from a favorite artist.
... I guess I should put this is my environment design post. Lol. -

Wonky house is best house

Multiple light source study. It's really hard to find good pictures of multiple light sources acting on a single figure (t least for me). But theatre sets LOVE lights. All the lights. SO MANY LIGHTS. Wash, fill, key, back, blah blah blah. I didn't understand when I was working as a theatre grip and I don't understand it now

@Braden-Hallett
I love this. I first thought of my story about the fish and burning house story, I’d use similar colours like you’ve done here.
