Your lamp has flattened cylinders on both ends too so maybe try the flattened cylinder for your table top? Just something to maybe try. I like your lamp

@Leah-Katz if the tones are to show the light/shadow and the light source is the window then I'm not sure they're working yet. E.g. The floor would be a similar tone to the top surface of the bed and the side of the bed facing left, away from the window, would be one of the darkest. Sometimes drawing the arrow for the light direction helps me to think more clearly about what values the surfaces should be.

The assessment was to design a lamp. So I wanted to design a old Victorian oil lamp that one would find in an old overgrown manor Untitled_Artwork.jpg

Tanks a lot for reply Tessa! Yeah I kinda messed up above mentioned assignment. Didn't really wanted to dive in in a rendered and textured color here, cause I don't feel comfortable with coloring yet. So I just tried to make fun of this panel (at least with upper and bottom right panels)

      HI Adam!

I agree that the reason they are using digital is it's a lot easier to use to teach classes with, record make edits and present with - there is nothing "wrong" with working traditionally.

I went to art school for animation/illustration and I didn't learn digital until about year 3 out of 5. We had a few visiting pros who used digital mediums and gave us tips. But the idea was that as long as you understood how to make art traditionally, you could then translate that knowledge to any other meidum. It was FOR SURE a learning curve to learn digital eventually, but easier since I wasn't learning digital and foundation skills together. Also, if you're into Children's Illustration, there is still a desire for traditional work, so I think you'd be fine!

Great job on these, @CharlieLP! Your lines have a lovely quality to them, and you've captured the form and proportions so accurately. Keep going!

@carlianne Yeah watercolor is fundamentally incompatible with clean vectors, so Illustrator wouldn't have the tools for that 🙂

Hi, I do have a serious problem with cutting this shape and have been stuck since days trying to figure it out and it is just not happening:
I can't figure out what the curve of the red line should be? Jake drew an oval to find out the curve, but I don't get it. I feel it should be straight, cause
      shapes1.jpg
If we cut a cylinder in half and then cut through it, wouldn't it look as the following? (the red shape).
      shapes2.jpg
Then why is it different in the top shape. Isn't that similarly cutting through a half-cylinder? I hope I could explain my question. Appreciate your help 🙂

@BichonBistro sounds awesome. Moi aussi 😁 if I add to my post I'll tag you in it. I'm working on the final project however it's bringing up the holes in my skills again so I'm going to go back to some of the earlier assignments.
I was working on figuring out how to make my own grid. The trick (other than figuring out where my horizon line is in relation to my image and how that impacts if I'm seeing more ground versus sky) is getting the whole square plane thing. And exact square cubes for measuring. I can see how I could be more loose with perspective in the future but at this point all this practice is helping me. I also watched the building backgrounds class with Brian ahjar ( didn't do the coursework yet). But there are pre-made room grids in there to use so I might play around with that. 🙂
