@Amanda-Bancroft - see @davidhohn‘s reply to the same question I had a while ago. Hope that clears it up. I probably wouldn’t make a big deal of it with your friend for this time. Maybe going forward when you gift something you can just throw in, hey, glad you like your gift, but I still own the copyright and rights of reproduction and using it for other products. You’re welcome for your awesome original painting!

@TessaW Thank you! All of your suggestions are great! I have had some of them rolling around in my head. I think I am going to have the boy sneaking in the window on the phone. That's a good idea.

Is it better to purchase a high quality printer and handle the shipping mysel

I had a decent printer before and was running an ETSY shop. Then one day I signed a book contract, and have to stop ETSY shop for a while due to time limitation. Then my printer got clogged and can't be cleaned, so I have to retire it.

Also wonder if any one has experience on investing/keeping a prof-printer or use drop services.

@Basil-Godevenos To me, most of those would be acceptable for kids, I grew up on harsh stuff and was taught to separate fantasy from reality and such.. Some parents might not like some of those.

Tapas would be the best platform for kids work as it is purely comics, and the mature section is separated. Instagram is a cesspool of everything, not as bad as twitter though. I could see parents installing tapas as it's pretty safe viewing. Could always post on other sites and link to tapas to try and funnel traffic.

Ah I didn't read about the 35 jobs in a year thing...that is super lame. I am sure that there will be less work just because companies don't want to deal with the paperwork. 😞

@Joni-Nemeth wow! But I guess I'm not surprised. I'm a writer and artist and earn money from both; sometimes I see payment within 30 days, but sometimes it takes too long. My latest magazine article was approved for publication October 2018 and is going to print January 2020 with payment following. Leanin' Tree greeting card licensing royalty checks can take over a year to go out after the designs are contracted/approved.

@davidhohn I've watched up to the first exercise so far and I've already learned to recognize perspective where I wouldn't have seen it before. So far, so good!

@jdubz @baileymvidler This! This so much!! Recurring contracts are a really great way to start. It can be slow to start getting work from publishers and build a client list. When I started I had a few recurring contracts like this - places that would send me some work every month, and booyyy did it take the pressure off! A good chunk of my income each month was already covered, leaving me only 10-15% to cover by finding additional contracts each month. Now after a year and a half I have been able to drop all but one of these recurring contracts, but it still brings some stability to my budget each month. It's a really great way to start!

😞 It is such a great piece. Would be neat if they did a short vid critique of your piece and add it onto the end of the slowvember critique when posting to the critique arena.
