I'm not an expert when it comes to gesture drawing so I can't give much of a critique. But the first and third image are my favorite, I think it is becuase of the strong straights vs curves that you are playing with. Michael Parker's new course has a good section on gesture drawing (along with +400 non-nude images to draw from) and we have a course dedicated to gesture drawing coming next month! Brooklyn Walker, a character designer at Sony animation is teaching that course.

As I began to get started on this months contest, I thought I would ask for some feedback from last months entry. My hunch is that I didn't hit the brief and you can't really tell what is going on in the image, but I would really like to start doing a bit better in the contests so I thought I would ask for some feedback. @gavpartridge Thanks a lot for having a look at my work, and thanks for pointing out this important detail. That's something I have been told by some other artists I've shown my work too. I have been practicing on and off on the anatomy but I guess im just not regular. I went through your website as well. You have some really interesting drawings. Doesn't look like just a hobbyist's work, how have you been practicing?

she will usually wear a white silk robe simulating that look and giving me and excuse to omit some detail, ill later do an ink drawing of her with the robe on

@chrisaakins It’s kind of what I did with my snow tracks piece. But I changed them all throughout. I don’t think you should do that. Just softly around his cute little ears. 🙂

@Cat-De-Pillar I really like this. It has a romantic atmosphere. One suggestion from me would be to have more hair flowing over his nose on the far side of his face. Then use Rembrandt lighting (shadowy face with a triangle of light under the eye) on his visible eye. With him lowered a bit so his eye is a third way down - i think you can lose some space at the bottom and add it to the top. Defo works as a Jane Austin book cover.

I'm also a graphic designer, I was in your position about 3 years ago when I was trying to improve my illustration skills.
Would I buy this piece? I don't know about a print but a coffee mug? sure!
I agree with @NessIllustration better planning on your illustration helps a lot. Once I hit the pose I'm going to draw I usually do it 2-3 times over just to get the linework as smooth as possible. Then, I proceed with color. I would suggest a richer color palette for this piece.

I know it might be overwhelming to put your art out there to get some feedback. But this is part of the process and a very important one. Feel free to show us more pieces.

Definitely a strong foreground. I do pretty everything digitally so the fact that you've just gone for it in your sketchbook impresses me!
