Hey guys, anyone joining the #BonVoyageWeek2020 Challenge in instagram? A prompt list was released three days ago and we have until May 25th to start posting the finished pieces (all the info right here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B_xdPCCnPPc/ ). I thought it would be a good chance to test new techniques and compete with myself to finish all of them in only two weeks. No exploration for each idea just base sketch and paint! These are my first sketches ready for color

I m currently working on a step to step timelapse video for my followers on IG ,
regarding the stages I go through when making a digital illustration.

I upload a step every day ,and I answer questions regarding that step.
Figured I d share this here if anyone is interested to see another approach to art , and also to get feedback and critiques.

I planned January to April of this year as time to create a dummy book for this contest and have struggled with juggling everything I want to work on. They extended the deadline to June so I can start working on it, and I was hoping some of you would like to enter too: https://www.clavis-publishing.com/keycolors

Before the libraries closed, I checked out a bunch of books from this publisher and the quality was ok. The glossy pages and some of the book design choices kind of irritated me, but they put some nice picture books out there. I don't know what kind of reputation they have, because one thing I found somewhere was not paying on time (or something?) but generally they sort of passed the test of a small publisher I wouldn't mind working with. The winner gets 8k and a contract, but they also require you to go to NYC to judge the contest the next time around, so the winnings are automatically less one or two trips to participate. And I do wish they had kept it international the way it was before. There was no explanation available for the change - a German won it last time, so it seems a shame to limit it to the US.

I will try to finish these as part of a new habit of always finishing what I start. I thought I was doing better with that, but if I always grow the problem, how can I expect to have a chance at changing my habits? The way I am attempting to change the way I work for the April contest is to give myself a deadline of April 20. Hopefully this means that I will have to shrink the problem into something manageable, and then I can go back to working on these since portfolios do require finished pieces 😉 .

I'm glad to get a solid read on the sort of market the book should be marketed towards-- and also that the typeface just needs to change 🙂 I'll try to get on that in the next few days and post about the typefaces I check out.

No, I'm not. I'm not based in the UK and will probably become a member in IO (German). They also do help with contracts, but I fear I'll have to postpone my membership until I can afford it.

I am not worried about delaying the contract because the project is run by a friend of mine whom I trust. But it doesn't make it easier to set a fee 😉

I was writing messages with her today to get some more details. She wrote: "We are likley to print thousands of books (like 100 000) but all are printed at cost price with 0 profit as this is a charity initiative. We make 0 from the printing of the books and we put 'not for sale' on them/ Selling them would be another matter. I guess so we would probably need a rule for each. Though we have no plan to sell" and "we plan to print at 60 cents per book (euro price) or less hopefully".

Whoa ... I didn't know this would be so big! Any advice?

@Neha-Rawat Good thoughts. I kept the glow as it's colored magic, but yeah, it probably would not be visable, or at least barely.

The blur was on purpose as the small trees/hills are far away, maybe I should lessen it a bit, and blur the far away houses a tad to make more sense.

@KaraDaniel thanks...I didnt notice that. I will make that part of the bag curl up a bit more so it doesn't touch. I dont think coloring would help...its a clear plastic bag.
