I remember the frustration I felt when I was first learning Procreate. I wanted to capture the watercolor and coloured pencils look that I had with traditional medium and had no idea how to do it. I searched Youtube for Procreate watercolor tutorials and followed along. After doing dozens of these tutorials I started to notice themes with techniques and brushes. If you haven't already done this, you may find it helps.

Nowadays, I do all my drawing (and some color blocking) in Procreate and then take it into Rebelle for the watercoloring. It's an amazing program (with another big learning curve) if you ever want to check it out. I then finish it in Photoshop or Procreate for final details.

Since none were available commercially I created a set of Prismacolor pencil swatch color libraries for Procreate on iPad.

These are based on pencil rubbings of each color and converted to RGB. Unfortunately, there is no way to label the specific swatch with the pencil #.

There were a number of colors that simply do not exist in the RGB color gamut and are therefore unable to be reproduce. In total there are 137 pencil colors (I believe. I might be off a couple).

You've already had some great suggestions, but for me the number 1 thing I'd do is flip the image! The action is from right to left which feels very unnatural and against the flow. The eye is used to reading an image from left to right, and so the action should flow in that direction as well 🙂
P.S I really like the little plants cut out of the bottom edge, very effective and creative!

Inspired by color theory tutorial by Will. Tried to be more aware of the use of saturated/unsaturated colors to put emphasis on main part (head). Any feedback? thanks

@seanwelty Thanks. I had the biggest value contrast by far in the face to draw attention there. There's not much value difference within the hair - that's why I kept the background value a similar value to the hair so it didn't stand out as much. The black shadows in the reference were actually darker than I went and I wanted to draw the attention to the mouth/nose as they are what Ronnie is to me. I stayed more painterly away from those areas intentionally. Thank you for the input though, I really appreciate it.

Thank you Marsha. I didn't want to go too realistic with the colour and wanted a painterly feel to it. It was basically just a test of what the iPad Pro could do.
